Birthday Celebration

These are some of the dishes we had at my grandmother's 70th birthday.
This is "caiyan" or agar agar, a type of jelly.

A cross-sectional view of the jelly, consisting of yellow, green, white and pink!

These weird looking pink buns are longevity buns, which are filled with (sweet) lotus paste.
The structure is held together by sticks pierced through the buns. It has already been sliced into two separate bun halves, the filling was rather measly (I like buns with a generous amount of fillings hehe)

This is my grandmother's birthday cake. It is quite large in size and more elaborately decorated compared to typical birthday cakes. The two peaches (made of marzipan) symbolise longevity. The yellow flowers seem to be chrysanthemum but I do not know what they represent. These kind of cakes are ordered for special birthdays, when a person has reached a rather significant age in their life (like 70 years).

Mid-Autumn Festival Goodies

This is a rather traditional fish biscuit, and quite rare nowadays. It does not have any filling in it and is slightly soft but dry. These can come in other shapes, like butterflies and pigs.

Some biscuits are sold in these cute little plastic holders. Choose your preferred colour and pluck it from the bunch!

This one is a little piggy-shaped biscuit :D
This tastes rather similar to the fish shaped biscuit, just that it is a pig shape.
